Acts 10, Proverbs 1

Acts 10: 34 & 35

“Then Peter began to speak; I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.”

Proverbs 1: 33

“…but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Acts 9, Proverbs 30

Acts 9: 6

“Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

Proverbs 30: 7 – 9

“Two things I ask of you, Or Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise I may have too much and disown you and say ‘who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonour the name of my God.”

The passage in Acts this morning reminded me of something God told me during this year’s HistoryMaker, and the passage in Proverbs really is a wonderful prayer towards simplicity and just what the Lord wants in our lives, not the clutter of what we want.

Acts 7, Proberbs 27

Acts 7: 23
“When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his fellow Israelites.”

Proberbs 27: 19
“As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.”

My prayer today was that my heart would be a good reflection of the man God wants me to be. I am also thankful that Moses was 40 before he went back to Egypt – that gave me hope.

This is what happens when a normal study goes sideways around exam time.
When a Bible Study goes wrong…

The Jesus I never knew

Another great book by Philip Yancey is ‘The Jesus I never knew.’ A bit longer than ‘What’s so amazing about grace,’ but equally worth the read.

If  you’re looking for some summer reading…Google Books has Philip Yancey’s ‘What’s so amazing about grace’ online. I’ve read this book a couple of times and have really (really) appreciated such an honest book about grace; what it is, what it isn’t, and how little we often spread it around.

Pray for Marria

I really feel as though the Lord is telling me to be regular in my prayers for healing. Marria has Ulcerative Colitis and we’d appreciate any/all prayer you can lift up for her.

Acts 6, Proverbs 26

Acts 6: 1

the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
Kinda cool that before worrying about church seating, worship music, bulletins, or programs…distribution of food was one of the primary services of the early church.

Proverbs 26:2

“Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest.”
